“D’Alessandro’s 2012 Syrah Migliara is racy, bold and explosive. Super-ripe red cherry and raspberry jam, spice, wild flowers, new leather and mint are some of the many notes that give the 2012 its racy, almost flamboyant personality. Today, the 2012 is quite young, but it has tons of potential. All of the fruit intensity is channeled through to the finish by the wine’s structured frame.”

“Fabulous syrah with depth and structure. Beautiful aromas of pure dark fruit, smoked meat and hints of walnuts. Full body, rich fruit and tannins. A powerful red. Needs two or three years to soften. Always thoroughly outstanding. Better in 2017”

“The 2011 Syrah Migliara shows a more savory side of Syrah, with the fruit pushed a bit backward and plenty of varietal aromas and flavors that develop in the glass. Lavender, cured meats, black pepper, mint, sweet spices and tobacco give the 2011 superb complexity that plays off the inherent richness of the vintage and generosity of Cortona. A dense, meaty wine, the 2011 Migliara is going to need at least a few years in bottle to fully blossom. Still, it is impressive today. I tasted the 2011 from tank, just prior to bottling.”

“Tobacco, violets and blackish stone fruits all jump from the glass as the 2010 Syrah Migliara shows off its personality and pedigree. Wonderfully alive and vibrant, the 2010 is intense and impeccably resonant, but never heavy. The Migliara possesses remarkable finesse for such a big wine. This is without question one of the best wines I have ever tasted from the property.”

“The 2009 Syrah Migliara is an intriguing wine. Deceptively medium in body, the 2009 graces the palate with expressive, floral-inflected aromas and flavors. Licorice, tobacco, incense and orange peel all introduce an element of exoticism that is highly attractive. As delicious as the 2009 is, it isn’t especially varietal. I am curious to see if those nuances develop over time. Overall, this is a fairly delicate, restrained Syrah.”
  • 96 punti James Suckling “100 Migliori Vini Italiani” “Wow. This is so deep with subtle fruit as well as walnuts, raw meat and tar. Very Cote Rotie. Full, dense and layered with beautiful fruit and sliced meat undertones. Long and gorgeous. So pretty and intense. Better in 2014, but why wait?”
  • 89 punti Wine Spectator “Blackberry and plum flavors are ripe and fleshy, with a hint of flowers and spice. This red is juicy and firm, showing ample grip on the finish. Best from 2014 through 2025. 600 cases made.”

“This is phenomenal. What I expect in a top Syrah, with spice, black pepper, mineral, and dark fruits. Full and velvety, with lots of everything. Powerful and intense. Best wine ever from here. Drink or hold.”
  • 94 punti Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate “The single-vineyard 2008 Cortona Syrah Migliara fleshes out beautifully in the glass with layers of dark red fruit that fill out the wine’s broad shouldered frame nicely. The Migliara is at once more perfumed, high toned than Il Bosco, with an expression of fruit that tends towards the red end of the spectrum. Fine, polished tannins round out the creamy finish. Here, too, the wine remains extremely primary with little in the way of aromatic development or complexity at this early stage. A small amount of Viognier is added at the final blend.”

“The estate’s 2007 Syrah Migliara, from an old-vine plot, impresses for its detail, nuance and clarity. In many ways it reminds me of Angelo Gaja’s Sorì Tildìn in its jewel-like precision and multi-faceted personality. Impossibly fine, ripe tannins frame perfumed red fruit, mint, minerals and spices all the way through to a sublime, eternal finish that seems to never end. What a thrill it will be to follow this wine in the coming years. Readers will have a hard time not opening this now, but the Migliara should be even better in a few years. Today it is merely magnificent. Stylistically the Migliara is more refined than Il Bosco.”
  • 93 punti Wine Spectator “Dried fruits and jam on the nose follow through to a full body, with velvety tannins and a big, juicy finish. Tannic. Needs time. Best after 2013. 500 cases made.”
  • 97 punti James Suckling “Very powerful, with intense blackberry and black fruits with licorice. Very intense nose. It’s full-bodied and long. It’s velvety textured, with so much richness and fruit. Powerful. Better than I remember. Drink now or hold.”

“Black in color, with amazing aromas of blackberry, aniseed, black pepper, and minerals. Full-bodied, with braised meat, superpolished tannins and an ultralong finish. This is the first release of a single-vineyard Syrah made by Piedmont’s Luca Currado (Vietti) and Christine Vernay (Domaine Georges Vernay/Condrieu). Best after 2011. 500 cases made.”
  • 93 punti Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate “The 2006 Cortona Syrah Migliara is a selection made from the estate’s best finest fruit. It is an especially vibrant, full-bodied wine that bursts onto the palate with an explosion of fruit. This, too, will require patience, but the wine boasts extraordinary purity and a level of textural finesse that insures it will drink beautifully for a number of years. 2006 is the first vintage for the Migliara, an old-vine parcel that had always been vinified and aged separately, but was previously blended into Il Bosco.”
